OpenAI’s new multimodal machine learning model GPT-4o will improve business operations across multiple sectors including enhanced customer service, analytics and content creation, says Eric Boyd, corporate vice president of the Azure AI platform at Microsoft.
The new Chat GPT model is designed to accept text, visual and audio input, with the “o” in GPT-4o standing for “omni”, according to OpenAI. It also generates output in any of these three formats.
GPT-4o aims to respond to audio input better than its preceding models GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 with capabilities to recognise tone of voice, multiple speakers and background noise.
“GPT-4o is much better than any existing model at understanding and discussing the images you share,” said OpenAI in a press release. “For example, you can now take a picture of a menu in a different language and talk to GPT-4o to translate it, learn about the food’s history and significance and get recommendations.”
Updates in Copilot help users to write better prompts
“By integrating diverse data inputs, GPT-4o enables more dynamic and comprehensive customer support interactions,” says Boyd in a Microsoft blog post titled ‘Introducing GPT-4o’. “GPT-4o’s generative capabilities to create engaging and diverse content formats [caters] to a broad range of consumer preferences.”
The new model is now available in preview on Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service across two regions in the USA.
