Oil services provider Baker Hughes, software company C3.ai and Microsoft have partnered to bring artificial intelligence (AI) to the energy sector.

The joint offerings will enable energy companies to operate more safely, reliably and sustainably.

The alliance will leverage the energy technology expertise of Baker Hughes, C3.ai’s AI platform and applications, and the Microsoft Azure cloud computing platform to provide a suite of cloud-based enterprise applications.

“We are witnessing a massive market shift as oil and gas businesses undergo enterprise-level digital transformation to improve efficiencies and increase safety, while simultaneously reducing environmental impact,” said Thomas Siebel, CEO of C3.ai. “With [this new partnership] organisations can rapidly improve core business operations and better serve customers with AI-enabled products and services. This strategic alliance is a complete game-changer for the industry.”

The solutions will make it easier for organisations to use AI by moving data management, storage and computing to Azure through the implementation of applications built on the BHC3.ai Suite, from Baker Hughes and C3.ai.

“For the energy industry, this is a time of significant transformation, and forward-thinking companies are exploring how to leverage technology to make their operations cleaner, safer and more efficient,” said Judson Althoff, executive vice president of worldwide commercial business at Microsoft. “[This alliance will enable] customers [to] achieve new levels of digital transformation while advancing their sustainability commitments.”
