Hannover Messe: High-calibre speakers at first Lightweighting Summit
Event will explore and promote the importance of lightweight design and engineering

The first-ever Lightweighting Summit will take place at Hannover Messe on 2 April. The event will feature presentations from notable speakers and explore the importance of lightweight design and engineering in digitisation and globalisation. 

Introductory speeches will be delivered by Michael Meister, Parliamentary Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and Jochen Köckler, CEO of Deutsche Messe. In addition, Peter Altmaier, the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy in Germany, will welcome visitors as the summit’s patron. 

“Lightweight engineering is a strong innovation-driver which can contribute to enhanced resource and energy efficiency,” said Altmaier. “This is equally important for environmental and climate protection, as well as for strengthening Germany’s competitiveness as an industrial location. Lightweight engineering has an important role to play in mastering global challenges.” 

Two keynotes will provide analysis of the inherent opportunities and challenges in lightweight engineering and a discuss the importance of lightweight design in the automotive industry.  

Guests will also be able to hear about key elements in the national lightweight engineering strategy from an industry perspective and that of the research community in panel discussions. Industry experts including Hubert Jäger, CEO of Carbon Composites and professor at Dresden Technical University will cover the topic. 

Users from all industries can meet with experts who will demonstrate the role of lightweight design in the product improvement process. Visitors will be able to see over 100 companies and associations present smart lightweight solutions at the event.
