Lloyds Banking Group is accelerating its cloud migration process by moving its Oracle databases to Oracle Database@Azure.

This follows Microsoft’s 2019 partnership with Oracle to bring Azure services to Oracle workloads and provide multi-cloud capabilities to shared customers.

“Lloyds is just one of the organisations taking advantage of this capability,” said Bill Borden, corporate vice president of worldwide financial services at Microsoft. “Through its collaboration with Oracle, Lloyds is advancing its multi-cloud strategy by moving its Oracle databases to Oracle Database@Azure. This will allow Lloyds to streamline its migration to the cloud, enabling more innovation that will ultimately benefit their customers.”

The migration will help Lloyds bring new products and capabilities to market faster while enhancing performance, security, resilience and availability of its services.

“As we focus on growth and diversifying our business, maximising our use of data across the group becomes critical so that we can innovate and deliver new services faster for our customers,” said Joe Soule, CIO of enabling services at Lloyds. “The ability to flexibly deploy Oracle databases on-premises or in the public cloud, in combination with Azure through a multi-cloud approach, enables us to accelerate the pace at which we adopt digital technologies. This ensures we can support our customers with high-performing services and the best customer experience possible.”

Lloyds is also using Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer to run databases in its own data centre.

“Few sectors are evolving as rapidly as the financial services industry when it comes to cloud adoption,” said Richard Smith, executive vice president and general manager of EMEA cloud infrastructure at Oracle. “Lloyds is one of the companies at the forefront of this transition. By taking advantage of the industry’s most comprehensive and flexible approach to the cloud, Lloyds can streamline its migration to the cloud and enable more innovation for its customers.”
