M-Files is encouraging manufacturers to lay strong digital foundations as a key step toward achieving operational transformation.
The firm’s new e-book, Achieve Operational Excellence in Manufacturing with Knowledge Work Automation and AI, outlines how technologies such as AI, machine learning and automation are reshaping the manufacturing landscape by enhancing productivity, reducing costs and improving quality control.
“To achieve operational excellence, manufacturers need to establish a digital backbone spanning across departments, systems, and processes,” writes M-Files.
However, building this digital foundation requires overcoming some of the industry's most persistent challenges. According to M-Files, manufacturers today struggle with three core issues: information siloes between departments and systems; slow and error-prone manual processes; and a reliance on individual diligence for quality and compliance efforts. The firm recommends deploying unified data environments and automating routine workflows to improve process efficiency and reduce business risk.
AI plays a central role in this transformation. The e-book explores how machine learning and generative AI are being used to deliver real-time insights and uncover patterns that were previously undetectable.
A significant focus is placed on knowledge work automation, described in the report as a “game-changer” for modern manufacturers. Features such as integrated automation tools, robust document and information management, workflow automation, asset information oversight and comprehensive audit trails contribute to improved collaboration, cost savings and compliance.
