Microsoft is to acquire Israeli software company CyberX to enhance and secure internet of things (IoT) deployments for its customers, and enable smart manufacturing for enterprises.
Through the acquisition, Microsoft says that it aims to give “customers visibility into what IoT devices are already connected to their networks” and manage “the security on existing IoT devices”.
Customers will be able to use CyberX solutions alongside Azure IoT security capabilities to discover existing IoT assets, and manage and improve their security. With CyberX, enterprises can also see a digital map of devices and gather information about their asset profile and vulnerabilities. According to Microsoft, “gaining this visibility is not only critical for understanding where security risks may exist and then mitigating those risks, but it is also a fundamental step to securely enable smart manufacturing, smart grid and other digitisation use cases across production facilities and the supply chain.”
