Network security is not enough for operational technology (OT) data, according to a new whitepaper from data solution provider Skkynet.

Skkynet reports that in the age of digitalisation, modern enterprises need secure access to data to increase efficiency and reduce risks, and that breaches in OT such as production networks can have significant detrimental effects on an organisation. Therefore, data security needs to be a key consideration.

The whitepaper also compares network security to having a house with a shared key, and data security to having an invisible mail slot, meaning only authorised people can deliver data to reduce the risk of a virus entering the system. Furthermore, whilst network and data security may be implemented separately, they should work together as one unit.

To address this, Skkynet suggests using mirroring software such as its Cogent DataHub, which can maintain connection status and data quality information at every step of the process.
