Vehicle data provider Otonomo Technologies is to provide real-time vehicle data to Microsoft to help it improve its global mapping products and services and deliver instant updates to users across Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows and Bing.
Otonomo will provide connected data about traffic, road safety incidents and road signs. Microsoft will use this to validate its current road network data and provide instant updates on current traffic conditions, accidents and route optimisation to drivers.
“Microsoft’s robust mapping services offer a wealth of detailed location and traffic data to its users across the company’s ecosystem of services, platforms and applications,” said Ben Volkow, CEO and co-founder at Otonomo. “We’re pleased that Microsoft recognised the benefit of the breadth, depth and quality of the connected vehicle data that runs through Otonomo.”
Microsoft will also use the data to derive additional insights into factors such as new road geometry and turning restrictions, to support its mapping products.
“The connected vehicle data available through Otonomo will provide a meaningful and high-impact addition to our current processing chains and data sets,” said Russell Dicker, corporate vice president of maps and local at Microsoft. “We look forward to using Otonomo’s data to enhance our maps.”
