Energy provider Petronas has expanded its partnership with Microsoft to use digital technologies to drive renewable energy and decarbonisation efforts.
As part of the partnership, Petronas subsidiary Amplus Solar will work with Microsoft to develop a 100-megawatt solar project in Rajasthan, India.
In addition, Petronas and Microsoft are exploring the establishment of a ‘digital sustainability core’ to use technology in the energy industry to power environmental sustainability. This effort will include building an intelligent platform powered by data and artificial intelligence to support Petronas’s decarbonisation efforts while creating a “hub to record, report and reduce emissions”, says Microsoft.
“To achieve a net-zero carbon future, we believe in partnering with every industry to harness the power of technology to address the climate challenges we are confronted with today,” said Jean-Philippe Courtois, president of national transformation partnerships and executive vice president at Microsoft. “Our strategic partnership enables both Petronas and Microsoft to bring together deep knowledge and technical expertise to further digital transformation in the energy industry with the potential of having a positive impact not only on our planet, but also communities across the globe.”
