Global reinsurance firm Swiss Re has improved productivity, creativity and decision-making after rolling out generative artificial intelligence application Copilot for Microsoft 365 to 3,000 users.

Swiss Re trialled Copilot for Microsoft 365 for six months as part Microsoft's Early Access Program in August 2023, which allowed the organisation to determine the benefits of Copilot before implementation. It launched Copilot globally in May 2024 and it is now used daily by 3,000 employees throughout Swiss Re, including in the HR and communications departments, as well as parts of the core business. The company aims to increase the number of users in the coming months.

Copilot provides users with access to intelligent assistance in real time by using large language models combined with data in the Microsoft Graph – including calendars, emails, chats, documents and meetings – and Microsoft 365 Apps. This integration has helped Swiss Re employees to improve creativity, productivity and skills. It has enabled them to automate tedious tasks and has supported decision-making.

“At Microsoft, we are committed to equipping companies with cutting-edge technology to drive efficiency and innovation,” said Ralph Haupter, president of Microsoft EMEA. “Our collaboration with Swiss Re shows how generative AI can be securely integrated into the workflows of highly regulated industries while ensuring data security and confidentiality.”

The phased rollout of Copilot will ensure Swiss Re remains compliant with strict data security standards.

“We are excited to partner with Microsoft to integrate AI assistants into our digital workplace,” said Pravina Ladva, group chief digital and technology officer at Swiss Re. “With Copilot for Microsoft 365, we are giving our colleagues innovative tools to increase their efficiency and promote creativity. At Swiss Re, we are firmly committed to continuously training our employees and integrating forward-looking technologies.”
