The technology industry is paying tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II following her death on 8 September 2022.
Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 after 70 years on the throne. In response to the news, Microsoft wrote on Twitter: “The Microsoft community is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen. We give thanks for her years of stewardship and service, and we will miss her greatly.”
Meanwhile, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates wrote on Twitter, saying: “I feel honoured to have met HM Queen Elizabeth, and I am very sad to hear of her passing. My deepest condolences to the Royal Family and the British people.”
Melinda French Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, also took to social media to share her condolences. “Spanning nearly three-quarters of a century – and a world transformed many times over – Her Majesty’s was a reign without equal,” she wrote on LinkedIn. “I will cherish the kindnesses that Queen Elizabeth II extended to our family and the remarkable leadership, resilience, and example she showed us all.”
Other technology leaders including Apple CEO Tim Cook, Disney CEO Bob Iger and Google CEO Sundar Pichai have also spoken about the Queen’s unwavering leadership, dedication and sense of duty.
