Global effort of governments, businesses and civil society aims to protect our digital infrastructure

The Record is supporting The Paris Call for Trust and Security in Cyberspace. French President Emmanuel Macron launched the initiative on 12 November 2018, with the aim of creating a union of governments, businesses and the public to defend against threats to the digital infrastructure on which we rely.
The Paris Call, which is in favour of the development of common principles for improving the security of cyberspace, has already received the backing of over 500 supporters. 51 governments have signed up in support, including all 28 members of the European Union, 27 of the 29 NATO members and the governments of Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Colombia and New Zealand. In addition, 328 private sector bodies and 129 international and civil society organisations are signatories.
According to a blogpost by Microsoft president Brad Smith, The Paris Call is calling for governments, tech companies and nongovernmental organisations to work together to protect democracies and electoral processes from nation-state cyberthreats.
